This Christmas Playdough recipe is very easy to make and looks and smells just like sugar cookies. You most likely have all ingredients already on hand and it will take you less than 10 minutes to make it.
Playdough is such a fun sensory activity for kids of all ages. My kids absolutely love when I prepare little Playdough kits for them and they can get creative. For this Playdough recipe, I added Vanilla and Almond Extract to make it smell like real sugar cookies. For the decoration, we used sequins and beads, but you can use whatever you have on hand.
Your kids can use cookie cutters to make their playdough cookies or create their own shapes. There really is no limit to getting creative with Playdough.
This post is all about how to make easy Christmas playdough for kids.
The Easiest Christmas Playdough in under 10 Minutes
What you need:
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1/2 Cup Salt
- 1 Tbsp Cream of Tartar
- 1 Cup Water
- 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
- 1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Tbsp Almond Extract
- Sequins, Beads, and whatever else you want to use to decorate the “cookies” with
Directions to make the Playdough:
First, mix all the dry ingredients together. Then add in the water, oil, almond, and vanilla extract. Put ingredients in a pot on the stove and cook on medium/low. Stir constantly until a dough begins to form and pulls away from the edges of the pan or pot. It only takes a few minutes!
Let the dough cool down on the kitchen counter for a few minutes. I added glitter to the dough once it was cooled completely. You can also add different food coloring at this point if you want the playdough to be different colors.
I let my kids use cookie cutters to make the shapes and then they went on to decorate them with beads and sequins. They had so much fun and it kept them entertained for almost an hour!!
Now wasn’t this the easiest Christmas playdough activity ever!? You can store the playdough in a Ziplock Bag and re-use it over and over again. It will last you for a few months.
