Sensory Bins are by far one of my kids’ most loved activities. Especially during the colder months when we spend most of our days indoors, a winter sensory bin will bring the snow indoors and with it hours of fun.
Not sure about your kids, but mine can spend hours with anything that is moldable, squishy, wet, or just messy (lol).
I like to set up different sensory bins or activities for my kids throughout the month because it helps with fine motor skills, imaginary play, creativity, and most of all is a ton of FUN! It’s the perfect indoor activity when the weather isn’t nice.
The Fake Snow is made out of only 3 ingredients, Baby Powder, Oil, and Water. You can mix it in a large bowl and transfer it over into a larger bin, for your kids to play and enjoy. The ingredients are cheap and can be found in your local grocery or dollar store.
You can add different props like measuring cups, spoons, animals, cars, play people, trees and etc. Since I went with a winter scene, I bought a few items at the dollar tree that matched the theme. But feel free to use whatever you already have on hand.
This post is all about a winter sensory bin for kids.
Winter Sensory Bin with Fake Snow
What you need:
- 3 Cups Baby Powder
- 1/2 – 1 Cup Water
- 3 Tbsp of Vegetable Oil
- Props: measuring cups, spoons, animals, cars, play people, trees,…
How to make the DIY Fake Snow:
Step 1: Add the baby powder to a stand mixer, and mix it on the lowest setting so the baby powder doesn’t dust everywhere. You can lay a towel over the mixer, to avoid the baby powder cloud.
Step 2: While the mixer is running on low, add the water, then the oil. Keep mixing until it is all combined, and it forms a snow-like texture.
Step 3: Once you have the consistency you like, add the snow to a tray or a bin with props for your kids and enjoy hours and hours of play!
Yes! It really is this easy!
I hope you enjoyed this easy DIY Fake Snow Recipe.
